Panasonic vdr-m53 Palmcorder review

The Panasonic VD-RM53 is a DVD camcorder. The benefit to these type of camcorders is that they, record directly onto DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs for multiple recording and playback options. Also something to note is that DVD-RAM discs can be played on your home theaters DVD player instantly! You can also watch them on your computer as well.

And not only can you take high quality digital video you can snap digital still images as well, with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Not a huge resolution but still a nice size for emailing to friends and family and viewing on your computer.

Zoooom on in

Zoom in thanks to the 24x optical zoom and the 800x digital zoom. Of the two types of zoom optical zoom matters more for me. Digital zoom can zoom in much closer but it pixilated the zoom area and you zoom in closer and closer.

Jeff Keller of DVSpot, does a review of Panasonic's vdr-m53 and writes - "The VDR-M53 is Panasonic's low-end DVD camcorder, and it's also the first non-Sony DVD camcorder that we've reviewed. DVD camcorders give you the ability to take your video and put it into your home DVD player without ever touching a PC. It's as point-and-shoot as you get. At the same time, those who like to edit their video will be disappointed with the DVD format -- it's just not designed for that"

PCMag's Terry Sullivan reviews this Panasonic camcorder and writes "The single-CCD Panasonic VDR-M53 miniDVD camcorder has a street price of about $550, which is great a miniDVD camcorder that has a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 24X optical zoom, and still-shooting capabilities. But taking image quality into account, the VDR-M53's low price is appropriate—you'll get what you pay for. The performance isn't in the same league as that of higher-priced offerings like the Sony DCR-DVD403, which can cost as much as $500 more"
