The Sony DCR-SR100 is a HDD camcorder. HDD is an
abbreviation for hard disk drive. Basically the DCR-SR100
captures video onto a built in hard drive on the digital
video camera. This is the first Sony HDD camcorder, JVC is
responsible for the actual invention of HDD video cameras.
Sony's DCR-SR100 video camcorder offers an amazing 30 GB
of space for any type of video you can capture, from home
movies, to feature films.
With this Sony
Handycam camcorder you never have to worry about dvd
discs or mini dv tapes, all the video is stored on the hard
drive, I like this because it's one less thing I need to
worry about. It's kind of like having a computer with you,
capture the digital video and you're all done!
And not only is it digital video, but the sound is digital
as well, Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound to be
exact. The sound is enhanced with enhanced center-channel
audio. Oh, and by the way you can also snap high resolution
digital still images, 3 megapixel images. 3 megapixels if
you don't know is a very high resolution. If you were considering
buying a separate digital still camera, don't bother this
Sony digital
Handycam can
do the job of a video and still camera.

And the Handycam DCR-SR100 last feature that I think is
really important is the advanced crash protection technologies.
This feature uses sensors that are designed
to to detect falls and then it is designed to
remove the DVD write head automatically from the HDD camcorder's
hard drive. The last step is that this system, then does
video stream buffering to stop the loss of video data. That
is something that is worth it's weight in gold!
The DCR-SR100 digital Handycam is available May 2006, selling
for $1,100.
Other new models from Sony that were unveiled for 2006 include,
DCR-DVD105, DCR-DVD205, HAD CCD, DCR-DVD305, DCR-DVD405,
DCR-DVD505 and the Sony DCR-HC96.
