Analog video recording has been updated for a new
generation with today's introduction of 2002
line of redesigned Sony hi 8 handycam camcorders. All three of the new models are teeming
with features that allow users to do more than ever
before with analog camcorders.
For the first time, Sony has incorporated USB Streaming
function into an analog video camcorder. The CCD-TRV608
model allows users to stream live and recorded video
to their PCs for on-line viewing with Microsoft Windows® NetMeeting® software.
Through a basic USB connection, this feature transforms
the camcorder into a webcam or video conferencing system.
The supplied software also allows users to capture
still or moving images to a PC via the USB.
Another analog first is the incorporation of a SwivelScreen
LCD display on all three models, enabling users to
view subjects and surrounding scenes with both ease
and clarity --without being lost behind the camcorder.
In record mode, the display helps the user frame shots
correctly, and when shooting is complete, the LCD becomes
a convenient playback screen.
Sony's analog Handycam line features Hi8 video, one
of the highest quality analog video formats available
for consumers to shoot, save and share their memories.
The Hi8 format delivers up to 400 horizontal lines
of resolution, yielding a picture quality 65 percent
sharper than standard VHS recording media with its
240 lines of horizontal resolution.
In addition to high picture quality, the entire line
offers Worry-Free Recording™ system - a Sony
video camcorder feature package designed for effortless
capture of high quality video. Two of these features
are the NightShot® 0
Lux recording system for video capture in total darkness
up to 10 feet away and an InfoLithium® battery
with the AccuPower™ meter system.
Sony's InfoLithium batteries constantly communicate
with the video camera recorder so that the AccuPower
meter system can indicate the remaining minutes of
battery life on the LCD or viewfinder display. This
Worry-Free Recording feature allows users to concentrate
on their recording while keeping an accurate and constant
read of remaining battery power.
"There's no need to sacrifice utility and quality
to create lightweight, affordable camcorders," said
Takashi Kando, senior vice president of Digital Imaging
Products Division at Sony Electronics. "Sony's 2002
analog camcorders line was designed to produce extraordinary
video by taking full advantage of the latest technologies."
