Sony Handycam - digital camcorders

Sony Handycam: Sony announced today its 2001 analog Handycam camcorder line featuring Hi8™ video, the highest quality analog video format available for consumers to shoot, save and share their memories.

All five Hi8 camcorders from Sony produce up to 400 horizontal lines of resolution, yielding a picture quality 65 percent better than standard VHS recording media.

More Fabulous Features, More Creative Options

In addition to high-picture quality, the entire line offers Worry-Free Recording™ -- a combination of features that makes getting great video far simpler and easier. Two of these features are Sony's NightShot® 0 Lux recording system and Infolithium® battery with AccuPower™ meter system. With NightShot recording, users can capture video in total darkness up to 10 feet away.

Sony's Infolithium batteries constantly communicate with the camcorder so the AccuPower meter system can indicate the remaining minutes of battery life on the LCD or viewfinder display. This Worry-Free feature allows users to enjoy their recording while keeping an accurate and constant read of remaining battery power.

Sony also incorporates a five mode Fader (fade from black, mosaic, monotone, bounce and stripe) and eight picture effects (slim, stretch, mosaic, solarization, monotone, sepia, negative art, pastel) on the 2001 analog Handycam camcorders. These features provide the user with the option of giving their home movies a more professional, creative appearance.

Four models in the new line incorporate a SwivelScreen™ LCD display, enabling the user to view subjects and surrounding scenes with both ease and clarity. In record mode, the SwivelScreen display helps frame shots correctly and, when finished shooting, the LCD becomes a convenient display for playback.

"Our 2001 analog line combines Sony's reputation for outstanding quality with features consumers don't expect to find at such affordable prices," said Allan Jason, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics.
